Welcome to Sweet Cherries!

Welcome to my blog dedicated to my sewing hobby, Sweet Cherries, and now some added recipes and goodies based on our family life & interests. This blog is an easy way for me to share... I love to sew for family, friends and home - it is my creative therapy. :) As I started sewing products, friends suggested I start selling my Hand Sewn Goodies. And so here is Sweet Cherries...

I sew Market/Tote Bags, Oil Cloth Bags, Cosmetic Bags, Kitchen Towels & Aprons, Home Decor… and special projects by request. There are also many great gift ideas on my blog!

The Numbered Cousin Project!

I cannot claim credit for this idea - completely stolen from Martha Stewart!  At our annual Graham family trip to Wisconsin this summer, we bought the kids matching Old Navy $5 t-shirts and had the number of the cousin (all 18) printed on the back!  They were adorable and quite the hit on the night of the Olympic Opening Ceremonies!  And next year we need 20....

My First Quilted Bag...

Never thought I'd have the patience to QUILT, but I had such a fun time making this bag.  Most of these fabrics are from Sandi Henderson/Michael Miller Meadowsweet - one of my very favorite collections.  They're fabrics I LOVE and had so many scraps of...  just had to be resourceful with them.  This is a library tote style - just a little big bigger.  A very fun project - with a one-of-a-kind finished product!

Full Aprons

Most of my friends know, I am a HUGE apron fan...  I wear one all the time while working around my house.  Finally put together a pattern for one that I love!  Here a few samples of aprons made for friends.  What a great gift as we head into the holiday season!

Days of Week Kitchen Towels (French)

My resourceful mother-n-law found this fabulous set of Days of Week Towels - in French! I added ruffles and they turned out so fun!  Great birthday gift for a dear friend this summer...

Back to school (and back to SEWING!)...

After buying a house, selling a house, packing, moving, unpacking - and having 4 kids home for summer vacation - I am back to my sewing machine and posting some projects!  I have had many requests for fall bags and gift items - and I am officially back to work.  Please send me a note if you are looking for a unique gift for a friend or new bag for yourself!  Below are some of the projects I have recently worked on...  So fun to be in a new creative space!

One More Gorgeous Table Runner!

How about the burlap with the toile??  Pretty darn cute!

I break for Cookies....

No sewing today...  Colleen has been so excited to bake cookies (try keeping track of blood sugar numbers as a 3 year old nibbles on cookie dough AND sprinkles - ugh!).  She was so proud of her results.  Had to share these pics.  (I have to admit that I still enjoy having a little buddy home with me.)  And the cookies are a delicious breakfast with my coffee :)  So much for healthy eating...

iPad Cases in Oil Cloth

Oil cloth exterior - just too practical... wipe clean!  Fabric interior so your iPad can slip in easily.  Can make in so many combinations.  Love it!

Days of Week Ruffled Kitchen Towels

One of my FAVORITE new projects - and I cannot take any credit for the idea - I was purely the sewer on this one...  Made for a friend - added ruffles to days of the week towels.  Turned out adorable!  (I think you can add Heather Bailey fabric to anything and it will look fabulous!)  Have to make a set for myself now :)

Willow House/Sweet Cherries Holiday Open House Pics

Love these pics from my Willow House & Sweet Cherries Holiday Open House in November.  Thanks again to all those who stopped by for drinks, sweets and shopping!  New Willow House catalogs are out...  call me to book a party!  Double hostess points in January!

Burlap Table Runner with Ruffle

This was a new project and request from a friend - and it turned out so pretty.  The burlap is 17 inches in width and runs the length of a table with a fabric ruffle at both ends.  Ruffle can be made to any length (this one is 9 inches).  This ruffle fabric is a pretty Sandi Henderson/Michael Miller line - love it!  Burlap cannot be washed (only spot cleaned), but I made the ruffle 2-sided so that you can flip it over for longer use.  Of course I had to try it out on my kitchen table for photos with my Willow House goodies...  Custom pricing.

New Toiletry Bag/Clutch

Here's a new Toiletry Bag/Clutch that I love.  This can be made in most cotton or vinyl-covered fabrics.  It has a 12 inch zipper across the top and is fully-lined.  Very fun new option - great for a gift!

Thank You for Holiday Orders!

Kids returned to school today and I finally found time to post...  Thanks to everyone that placed holiday orders!  I loved sewing gifts for friends and their family, so thank you.  Here a few pics from the holiday orders...  lots of great fabric combinations - new vinyl-covered fabrics and fun oil cloth (a few of my favorite things!)  Thanks again!
